A Distributed Future: Blockchain and its Potential

Is Blockchain Bigger than the Internet? An interactive workshop jointly presented by Columbia Blockchain Alliance and Blockchain at Columbia. The workshop will dive deep into the technology and actual use cases of Blockchain. By allowing digital information to be distributed but not copied, blockchain technology created the backbone of a new type of internet. Virtually anything of value can be tracked and traded on a blockchain network. Presented by: Brian David Rogers, Co-Founder CBA Nir Kabessa, President Blockchain at Columbia Brian Rogers is currently the VP of Product for Augmate, an IoT blockchain company. He is also currently the Co-Founder & Chairman of the Columbia Blockchain Alliance. Brian was the CEO & Founder of Modgital, Inc., a company where he had taken on fractional roles as a CTO & CIO focusing on digital health, machine learning, and recently on blockchain technologies. He has worked in Fortune 500 businesses and as an entrepreneur having started several of his own companies. Earlier in his career, he founded the e-commerce division for Wilsons Leather growing it into a profitable multi-million dollar online business. He then went on to product management roles in BestBuy.com. As an entrepreneur, Brian has moved from the client-side to the agency-side, building and managing development teams for brands such as Harry Winston, 1-800 Flowers, and UnitedHealth Group. Brian is also an innovator holding two patents pending for advanced video technology showcased at MIT Technology Review’s EmTech. Brian also founded the Machine Learning Society NY Chapter, growing it to 1200 members (part of a national organization). He guest lectures at the Columbia Business School. He is also a frequent public speaker in the blockchain and cryptocurrency, recently speaking at a policy event in Washington D.C. at the US Chamber of Commerce. He publishes articles on machine learning and blockchain. Brian holds a BA, Economics from Denison University and MS, Technology Management from Columbia University. In addition to his professional pursuits, Brian is an avid outdoors and sports person, having run three marathons and venturing out on many solo camping excursions through the woods of northern Minnesota. He previously co-founded Eden Block, a blockchain research and investment vehicle based in Israel, and The Block, a crypto community and publication.
